at Abercarn last week, knocking them off the top of the table.
Walking into the club at 12 o'clock there seemed not only a distinct lack of players, but also a lack of supporters.
The manager was in Benidorm so what else could go wrong.
Then the bus turned up 25 minutes late and one player was heard to say "what a shambles", and I thought how right he was.
However, a fine contingent of support turned up and 20 minutes into the game the DD's were 17-3 up after scoring 2 fine long range tries, topping off an excellent first half display with a third try to go into the break 24 - 6 up. The second half was quite different with Abercarn kicking to the corners and taking a lot of lineout ball. Their larger forwards started to get on top but resolute defence from the DD's restricted them to 1 try, plus a rather dubious penalty try. With the return of Pross from the bin for a technical offence, the DD's pack got right on top for the last 5 minutes of the game, with 1 demolished scrum in particular being a highlight. Sensible play at the end saw the game out.
With running rugby from the backs to fine defence from the whole team I could take this "shambles" every game.
So much better than the sh*te served up later in the day !
Next up is Oakdale in the Ben Francis Cup.
KO 7.30 at Ystrad Mynach Centre of Excellence.
